everywhere. that is what john sibley has seen in hattiesburg. he jones us on the telephone. i'm here with our meteorologist chad myers. tell us what you saw. >> reporter: i picked up the tornado out of marion county, mississippi. there was initial report that came out of their emergency management agency that a tornado had indeed touched down and struck several homes, injuring several people. from there, i was able to pick it up about 10 miles to the west of hattiesburg. the storm was larger on the western side of the interstate than the eastern side. we've been able to go through and look at our video. now, the folks in west hattiesburg, i didn't hear sirens over there, but as we moved toward the college campus. the sirens were loud and proud. also want to give a shout out to the local fire department. as the tornado was paralleling highway # 8 and moving into the city. they were out there blocking traffic to keep folks from driving into the tornado as well as police out on the interstate. they had the interstate blocked for a time. >> chad myers, just amazing video we're watching here. what

doppler radar i am imagines and what the national weather service is telling us. forest county and jones county in mississippi, these storms are moving to the east-northeast a good 40, 45 miles per hour. you're under a tornado warning. it's in southwest alabama, choctaw county, clark county, washington county. we have as many as four warnings. previous hour or two we have had four or five warnings, nothing materializing from that and now we're getting damage reports. the system is going to continue to almost strike fear in many residents of the deep south into the overnight period because this system continues to churn. now, this is just one image. let me show you the radar picture. this is the southern edge of the frontal system that actually stretches all the way up to where blizzard warnings are in effect for areas of the upper midwest. eventually this is all going to move to the same area that was hit, of course, with, you know, one, two, even three feet of snowfall. that's a flood concern. as we go further into time, we can get a little closer. these tornado watch boxes will eventua

folks that live down in the hattiesburg area. again, three photographs coming to us already. checking in with the national weather service, but our threat, again, continues for our sunday early evening. this will be extended and could include the metro atlanta area for the overnight period and that's the frightening part, it's the overnight hours when you can't see the funnels dropping down. >> that's right, tom. and we'll be keeping an eye obviously on this. and the other thing is i should say we're waiting to hear from a hattiesburg resident who can tell us sort of more about the situation on the ground. we're going to fake a look at some of the photos we have seen coming in here. if you can talk a little bit about whether we were expecting -- well, first off, describe what you're seeing here and can you have any sense really of how close this is and how alarming this is, especially as you mentioned before that we see night starting almost to fall. >> right. you know, this is just a couple of hours before sunset and, of course, which would be occurring there shortly. obviously, this
